I woke from the memory to see the fasten seatbelt signs flash on. Rick stirred from beside me and rubbed his eyes. “Are we landing already?”

“You’ve been asleep the whole flight.” I held out my hand and uncovered a pack of peanuts. “I saved these for you. The stewardess didn’t want to wake you.”

He smiled, took the pack, and put it in his shirt breast pocket. “Thank you. I really needed the rest. What about you? Did you get any sleep?”

“No, I was reading, but I also had a flashback.”

“What about?”

“Nothing worth mentioning. It didn’t give me any clues to what happened to me and Patty.”

He didn’t press me about it. “I assume we’re taking a taxi to your place when we land?”

I’d forgotten to tell him the arrangements I’d made with Brian when I’d called the day before to tell him I was heading home. “No. Brian is picking me – us up.”

A frown replaced his neutral expression. “Ah, I see. What did you tell him about me?”

“I, uh, well, I didn’t tell him anything.”

“What?” His exclamation was so loud the passenger in front of us turned around.

He nodded to the man. “Sorry.” Then he turned back to me. “He doesn’t know I’m coming back with you?”

“When I spoke to him, I didn’t know either,” I explained.

“Can’t wait,” he said in a lower voice. “This should be interesting.”
