Chapter 11

Asset to the Federation

We can’t stay on Nico’s planet for long.

Even in the twenty minutes it takes me to clean up after we fuck, I can see Vight is getting antsy. He must not like the lack of land. I wonder if it’s because there’s no wind beneath the ocean? It’s a strange thought, but one that makes sense.

The land that exists on this planet is narrow and hard to stay on. In the water, there is nothing that Vight could control.

His winds help get the ship up into the air even more quickly than the previous take up, and aid us in breaching the atmosphere without problem. The gravitational pull of Nico’s planet is strong, and I’m grateful to have the extra strength of the wind at my back, even though it makes the hull creak ominously as well.

It stops once we breach deep space. For a long moment, the ship simply hovers there, almost aimless. I have the coordination input screen up, but a thought has just struck me. “I need to go back to the Federation’s station for my next mission.”

I glance over at Vight. He looks unhappy at that. I know he was jealous around his brother and the Waterites. I can’t imagine that he would be happy to have me on the station. Some of the members there are huge flirts. Even if there’s no true heat between us, I think that Vight would go through the roof to see something like that happen.

“I think we need to figure things out more before that happens,” I say, and Vight nods at me.

A look of relief crosses his face. “I believe that’s a good idea. My planet would be a good stop.”

“Your planet? I thought that’s where we just left,” I say. “I’m not sure there’s much for me there, Vight. I’m not really into living in caves.”

Vight laughs.

It’s not a chuckle, but a full-bodied laugh, and the first one I’ve heard out of him, too.

He says, “That is not my only planet. I have…many. Most of them are empty, at least of life forms like you and me, and many of them are small. But my sector of the galaxy—it’s… It’s special.”

I can see how much he cares for the planets under his command. I like how harsh and desperate he can be in the bedroom, but there’s something endearing about this, too.

“There is one planet, I would very much like to show you,” says Vight, leaning toward me.

I nod, unable to turn something like that down. I’m asking Vight to leave behind all of his planets and travel with me. I think that the least I can do is agree to visit one of them first. “All right. Then we’ll go there. I’ll get in touch with my boss, and then we can put in the coordinates.”

Vight nods and vanishes from the room. I move to the engine bay, sliding in behind the main console. It doesn’t take long before I have the hologram of Marik up in front of me.
