Five

I feel like I’m too shocked to respond to anything. I couldn’t kiss Mason back even if it was something I’d once longed for, not with how all of this happened. And although I’m dying to know how long they’ve had this planned, I can’t find the words to ask them. Not even as Mason silently frees me from my restraints and leads us both back to the elevator.

My heart skips a beat when he presses the button for us to go up, curiosity overtaking me as both of them stare straight ahead like they don’t realize or care that I have a million questions.

Is this over? Was that the extent of our House of Shadows experience? What the fuck do we do now? How do I even feel about this... about Mason... hell, about Torren? Fuck.

“You look a little lost, Cass. What’s wrong?” Torren asks, leaning against the wall of the elevator like everything is completely, perfectly normal.

It throws me off guard so much I turn to face him fully. “Is that a real question?”

“It is.”

What the fuck is happening?

“Little monster fell right into our trap,” he says simply, stepping back as Mason stalks around me. Separately, the two of them are intimidating. But together? They look like my downfall.

Did they... plan this? I’m so damn confused. “You didn’t — you knew he worked here? Why the hell did you act like you didn’t even want to come?”

“For the same reason you keep acting like you didn’t want me to bury my face in your cunt,” Torren says, reaching up to pinch my nipple. “It was just more interesting this way.”

“Interesting?” I shriek, but the doors open loudly before I can say anything else, and I let them lead me into a room before I round on them to continue arguing. I don’t know or care about what kind of torture the room has. I want to slap them both for tricking me too much to even give it a second thought. “Is this some sort of fucking game I wasn’t notified of?”

“You were notified plenty,” Mason reminds me. “Maybe we didn’t specify who, but we gave you what you came here for.”

Torren nods. “What are you really mad at, Cass? The fact that it’s us, or the fact that you liked it so goddamn much?”

“Fuck you.” The second one. God, it’s absolutely the second one, and they can see it all over my face as my cheeks heat up. “I don’t like being lied to.”

“So look me in the eyes,” Mason starts, “and tell me you’d have gone along with it if we’d told you up front.”

I wouldn’t have, even if deep down some broken part of me would have always wondered. “How can I say that? He’s my step-brother. How long have you been planning this?”

They exchange almost disappointed glances, staring at each other in silence for so long it seems like they’re reading each other’s minds. “Almost a year,” Mason finally admits. “Longer, but we didn’t have a real plan until then.
