9. School and Education: What Is It, 2017?
The pupil should exceed the teacher or the teacher has failed the pupil!
A very simple common sense idea to improve the teaching staff and their ability to teach pupils so they can face the world in the correct sense when they leave senior school. The same could apply in a similar way for university teachers as well. Teachers from senior school who have time on their hands during the summer holidays could work in industry to learn the true facts and that would help improve their knowledge and be a way of gaining hands-on experience.
Oh dear here come the shouts - overworked teachers need the six weeks to recuperate from such a stressful job. Well if they find the job of teaching children stressful then they must be in the wrong job! The job is for thirty-nine weeks of the year and actual work time is more like thirty-four weeks because when the exams start in the schools the teachers are not all actually having to do any teaching. In the past the teachers would spend time observing the pupils in the exam room but now this work is done by others so teachers don’t actually have anything to do! And of course we would not expect the teachers to work in industry for nothing, they could be paid! So they would in fact earn extra money so would not have to be doing other jobs that so many of them do! Oh I personally know teachers who become taxi drivers, do exam marking, do private teaching, work in shops and even garden centres during the school holidays, I even know some who do work using school equipment as well. Also I know that because the silly government let each school know at least two weeks before the Ofsted inspectors are turning up which gives the school time to paper over the cracks, and I know that some teachers are so worried about the inspectors sitting in on their lesson that they go sick on the day to miss them so the inspection is never 100% despite what the report will say!
Oh dear, the year is 2017 and yet again we have changes to the curriculum! It would seem that children from four years old should have sex education - what happened to puberty? Do we now have to have government-issued videos showing how sex is carried out? Videos showing babies being born. I can well remember watching the videos in the biology class clearly showing what happens during intercourse and how babies are started. Those videos were quite explicit in detail and were clearly being understood by thirteen-year-old pupils, and I am sure that nowadays the yesteryear details have been superseded by the websites which are easily accessed on the Internet both by parents and children. The biology teachers are fully aware that pupils have a more explicit awareness and knowledge of sex and the old-fashioned sex education needs to be completely revised.
