Take note of other things you can do in Messages Preferences, such as change the background color and font.
Exchanging files over IM
You can also use iMessages (or other text-chat services, such as AIM and Google Talk) to send files to your IM buddy or get a file in return. Not only is this method convenient, but also, unlike with e-mail, it imposes no size restriction on the file you’re sharing. (You can send only one file at a time, however.) Here are a few different ways you can send a file:
Select a name in your buddy list and then choose Buddies⇒Send File. Select the file you want to send.
Alternatively, drag a file to a buddy’s name or into an open chat window.
If you’re chatting with a bunch of folks at the same time, drag the file over the name of the person you want to send it to.
If you’re in a video chat, drag a file to the upper half of the video chat window. In a video chat with multiple people, you can also share a presentation or any other files, as you discover later in this chapter.
