Chapter Twenty-Seven

Colt

The following day I joined Merza at the omega safe house. Merza explained to me that all the omegas that they had rescued from breeding facilities were given a home to live in. They were offered therapy and taught how to integrate into society so that one day they could live on their own if they chose. Merza said that most of the omegas chose to remain in the safe house together. They were more like a family.

The house was a huge farm house with a large wraparound veranda. Children played, chasing each other, and laughing. A little tiger chased the children up and down the porch while they squealed with delight. Their antics put a smile on my face. There was such innocence.

A girl who appeared to be around thirteen stood watching them with a wide smile. She would clap her hands and encourage the children to run and hide while the tiger stalked them. I could have watched them play all day. I’d never witnessed such joy before. There was none of that at the training center.

“Let’s go inside and you can meet the omegas,” Merza said.

I swung open the passenger door and stepped out. The tiger stopped chasing the children and suddenly morphed into a little boy of about ten.

“Hi,” he said with a wide grin. “My name is Justice. Are you a rescued omega?”

I nodded my head. “Yes. It’s nice to meet you, Justice. My name is Colt.”

Justice grinned as he pulled on the pair of pants that the teen girl handed him. “This is Alice, Deoch, Maia, Balor, Loudon, Riley, and Brooklyn.”

The children all grinned and waved at me. “It is nice to meet all of you.”

“Where did you come from?” Alice asked.

“Um, well I was at the Morpheus training center.”

Loudon gasped and Maia pulled him into her arms. I frowned at the reaction. Alice shook her head and bent down to pick Loudon up. She kissed him on the cheek. “It’s alright little one. He isn’t going to hurt you. He is rescued from them too.”

“Oh, yes,” I said suddenly understanding that Loudon’s reaction was because he must have been involved in Morpheus. Judging by the fact that he was an alpha, I knew that he would have been getting groomed to fight. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to frighten you. I was rescued from Morpheus.”

Loudon narrowed his eyes and searched my face as if looking for a lie. Whatever he saw in me, must have satisfied him as he nodded his head and smiled at me.

“Many of the alpha children here were placed with Morpheus members to fight, unfortunately, we hadn’t been able to get them all out before their first fight,” Merza explained.

I frowned. “I hate them,” I growled. How they could take a child who was still a toddler and force him to fight, was beyond me. It made me feel sick.

“I do too. But we are doing everything we can to end them,” Merza replied. “Come and meet some of the other omegas.
