Chapter 8

Ocho Diaz-Santana

I had just finished having my security system installed in my new restaurant when I saw Navy walk into my establishment with a lame nicca. I wanted to rush out there and pimp slap his ass, but I waited for a moment to see what was up before I showed my ass. Out of all the Spanish food spots she could have taken her ass to, she brought her little man friend to my shit.

Low key, I was pissed off. I had been calling her, and she had been blowing me off, but she had time for the next nicca. We had a connection. I felt it, and I knew she felt it too, but for some reason, she was scared. I had no idea why. Sitting in front of the camera, I watched them like a movie.

“Welcome to La Delicia. Would you like a table or a booth?” the host greeted them.

“A booth,” the lame nicca said.

Navy and the lame were escorted to the booth. The host gave them both menus and told them someone would be with them shortly. I asked my best waitress to attend to them. She was nosey and picked up on everything. Also, she planted a bug at their table, so I could listen to their entire conversation.

“Good evening. My name is Maria. Can I get you something to drink?”

“Ask them if they are here on a date,” I said through the earpiece that she had hidden by her long hair.

“Can I get a beer special?” Lame said.

“I’ll take the Margarita special,” Navy added.

A server quickly brought them two small bowls of salsa. He left and quickly returned with two glasses of water with a dish of sliced lemons.

“So, why am I here, Pokey?”

“Pokey?” I shouted, jumping up from my chair. The nicca that had been cheating on her for years? “Oh, this shit is about to go left any minute now.”

Pokey took a sip of his beer. “I just wanted to tell you that I messed up.”

“What else is new? You always mess up. That’s why I dumped your ass. By the way, how is your arm?”

“Good. No thanks to you.”

“Why am I here?”

“I miss you. I miss us. We’re good together.”

“Nah, I don’t think so. Besides, I’m talking to someone new.”

That was my cue. I wasn’t sure if Navy was lying or not, but I was down to get my petty on, and she had just given me the greenlight. I was glad I came to work looking like new money. Dripped and draped like a rapper with two platinum albums, a Grammy, and a shitload of streams, I strutted out of my office over to their booth and took a seat next to Navy. Instantly, she scooted over.

“Ocho? What are you doing here??” she asked with suspicion.

I kissed her on the cheek. “Sweet cheeks, you don’t remember that we were having dinner here? You confirmed earlier before your club gig. Did you forget?”

“Um, no snookie bear. I just thought you were working late.
