THREE MONTHS LATER

I was happy as fuck to walk up out of that fucking hospital. Staying in bed all day was definitely not my thing. The pain was still there, especially where the bullet was still lodged. I noticed that I had difficulty breathing, which wasn’t good, because the doctor suggested that I give up smoking. Telling me to do that was like telling me to stop eating food.

“Babe, you a’ight?” Nyesha asked as she walked up behind me and put her arms around my waist.

“Just sitting here, tryna figure out how to make a couple million.”

“Shit, sound like a plan to me. What do you have in mind?”

“If I tell you, I’ma have to kill you,” I joked.

“Shit, fuck it then. I’ll make my own millions.” She laughed as she squeezed me.

I stood there thinking of how blessed I was. If you had told me that I would find a chick like shawty, who would make me want to settle down, I would say you were lying.

“Yo, you ever thought of us just getting up and leaving?” I asked her.

“I do, but I need to make some more money. I mean, we can’t just leave like that.”

“Man, you got money, and I got a good amount stacked up. We can move somewhere, maybe Atlanta, and start up a few businesses.”

“Yeah, true . . .”

I was trying to convince her to leave because the truth was, some shit was about to pop off. I knew the niggas who shot me, but I’d been laying low. I planned on getting my revenge on them and on their fucking families. I didn’t want to risk shawty and the kids getting caught up in the crossfire between me and these niggas.

“Yo, just think about it, a’ight?” I said.

“Okay, boo.”

I walked back in the house. Lately, I had a lot on my mind. The streets were calling my name, and I was ready to get back out there.
