I agreed to whatever he had in store and told him to give me until after the dinner rush hour. As usual though, I got caught up in the pace at work and got behind on my time. Ian called to check that I'd be ready by eight. “I'm still at the store,” I told him regretfully.

He scoffed at me and told me to go home. I thought to make excuses at first, but I stopped myself. “I'm getting ready to leave and I should be ready by eight o'clock.” I rushed around to finish up and told Paul to call me if there were any major problems.

“Yes, Ms. Stephenson. I know. Don't worry, we're fine.”
