It’s Friday nights that I miss my sexy woodsman.

I’m not a normal girl, so no, I’m not pining after a man or waiting for a phone call or text. Surely, no one will turn up at my door with flowers or ask me to go for a walk, just the two of us. There won’t be a private booth in the back of a diner, dipping into chocolate fondue and sipping wine, and definitely no sitting in front of a fire, warm and toasty with cups of hot chocolate in our hands.

As weird as it is, I can picture Scott doing all of that—with someone else. With a good girl. A church-going girl. A girl who bakes cookies and butters toast and brings him his slippers.

Eh, what do I know? I’ve watched too many re-runs in the mental hospital. It’s not a world I want to live in anyway.

I have adventures. I fight fire. I’m somebody here. Other than Death Wish, the rest of my team respects me. They might even like me—especially the guys when I let them have sex with me. Heck, D-Man even assured me that if he gets me pregnant, he’d marry me, and from the way Oatmeal hovers around, looking like he’s watching for signs of morning sickness, I’m betting he, too, would pop the question.

I know one who would deny it though, and I haven’t had a chance to snag him yet. He’s spending too much time tangoing with the DA who always gets her man.

Speaking of Virgie. I’m sick of hanging out with her all week. Yeah, sure, the scavenger hunt and setting up the ziplines was fun, but she chatters too much, and all the “man” this and “man” that is grating on my nerves.

Sure enough, she’s walking out of the cafeteria with her posse.

“Want to go to Colson’s Corner with us?” Virgie asks, flanked by D-Man, Oatmeal, and Baby Jake. “Man, we’re sick of the Trap here at Redstone.”

“Their beer tastes like it’s been swilled underneath the kitchen sink,” D-Man says. “Get it? That’s why it’s called the Trap.”

“Any bar is better than the Trap,” Baby Jake says. “Especially one called Sixty Miners.”

“You guys go ahead.” I try to slide by them toward my room. “I heard the Sixty Miners is for old fogeys.”

“Actually, the bar’s for sale,” Oatmeal says. “Remember Blue Bunyan?”

“Heck yeah.” My ears perk at the mention of Paul McCall, the rich kid with the trust fund who dabbles at firefighting. “What about him?”

“He’s looking to buy the Sixty Miners and bring it up to date,” Oatmeal says.

“Is he going to be over there tonight?” I ask. Of all the guys I met on Team Raven, Paul is the only one who hasn’t slept with me.

“Nope. Just rumors,” D-Man says. “But I figure if Bunyan’s interested, we might as well check the scene out.”

“Tell me how it goes.” My voice is tinged with curiosity, although me showing up at the Sixty Miners is too dangerous since I might run into the Colson brothers.
