Chapter Seventeen
Gianna
âWho the hell is this?â Angelo sounded like an attack dog, ready to sink his teeth.
âAngelo Isaac?â Shawn had a broad smile on his face. He stretched his hand out like he wanted to shake Angeloâs.
I clutched my robe closed and stared at him. âWhat are you doing here?â
Angelo moved me to the side. Standing between me and Shawn. âYou know this dude?â he sneered at Shawnâs outstretched hand. âYou rolling up trying to shake my hand?â he scoffed. âTell me this is your brother or some shit.â
âNo,â I said firmly. âHeâs not.â A hand went over my face. âHeâs my ex.â
âWait.â It was Shawnâs voice of confusion I could hear. Whenever he got lost in one of my stories, heâd say the same thing. Wait. Heâd want me to start over and explain again. Not because I didnât explain it well the first time, but most times because he wasnât listening. âYou fucking my girl?â
I could feel Angeloâs back shudder as he said, âYour girl?â His legs stretched open, and his arms flexed. âBetter question, why are you here?â
It was the answer I wanted too. The one Shawn ignored, and Angelo was kind enough to repeat. Still, Shawn didnât respond. Instead, he took to trying to claim me. âTwo weeks ago, she was wearing my ring.â
âTwo weeks ago, you fucked up. Unless, I misunderstood. You fumbled the ball, my guy. You have no claims to her anymore.â
âGigi.â Shawn tried to look over Angeloâs shoulder. He was a few inches shorter than Angelo, and thinner. He wasnât getting around Angelo, even if he tried. âWe need to talk.â
âTalk?â Angelo wasnât budging. âThe fuck you got to say now? Two weeks later, bruh? You should get the fuck on.â
I wanted to say the same thing. I could have co-signed what Angelo said, let his words speak for me. But somewhere deep down, I needed to end what me and Shawn had. Last time we spoke, I wasnât open to hearing anything after the words, âI slept with someone.â It was me who could have said, âwait,â because my ears were not open to hear anything else. I stopped listening and finally walked away.
Through tears, and an ache in my chest, I called my sister and told her the wedding was over. She managed telling the wedding party, my family. Thankfully, there wasnât anything I needed to speak to Shawn about. He wasnât involved in the planning. It wasnât him who made the calls for any of the vendors in the first place. I didnât need his help canceling them.
Someone along the way must have relayed the message that our summer wedding was over to our guests. That #aislebelovingvictors was no more. I didnât care to follow up with Shawn to make sure he knew. Or that his parentsâ got reimbursed for their flights. That he and his groomsmen called the tuxedo shop. The minute he uttered the words, âI slept with someone,â he was no longer my concern.
âGianna.â Shawn sounded like a spoiled child.
