Chapter Fourteen

MICHELLE HOWARD

Iwas stressed out of my mind. How the hell DeMarco managed to get a court date so early? I thought I at least had a few weeks. A few months even. I know he did some dirty, underhanded shit. That motherfucka’ thought throwing around his money was gon’ stop me? He had another thing coming. I wasn’t gonna stop until I got everything I deserved, and then some.

The court was called to order, snapping me from my thoughts. With my hands clasped in front of me, my eyes stayed focused on the judge as he stepped out of his chambers and walked up the steps to the bench. As soon as he sat in the high back leather chair, his eyes landed on me. It was a closed hearing. Just me, my lawyer, DeMarco, his lawyer.

Clearing his throat, the judge fidgeted in his seat, pushing his thick-rimmed glasses up on his face before addressing the court. The fuck he fidgeting for?

DeMarco ass paid him. That’s what. That’s why the hell he’s looking all damn nervous.

“This hearing is regarding Mia Hernandez, who is currently in the care of her mother. From the paperwork I have in front of me, Mr. Smith, I understand that your client was accused of child endangerment?”

“That’s correct, Your Honor. But those accusations are false and have been proven. I have documents from CPS stating that there were no findings to support Ms. Howard’s claim. This was just another case of a bitter baby mama,” DeMarco lawyer stated, and that set me the fuck off.

“Bitter baby mama? I ain’t fucking bitter! That’s my child too. I carried her for nine damn months while he was out in the fuckin’ streets, selling drugs!”

“Ms. Howard, have a seat. I won’t take that type of outburst in my courtroom. Now, if what Mr. Smith is saying is proven to be true, you will face charges for filing a false report,” this crooked motherfucka’ said to me.

I nudged my lawyer in the arm and gave him a look to let him know to open his damn mouth about this shit.

“Your Honor, this is absurd. My client has tried on numerous occasions to see her daughter, and Mr. Hernandez refused,” my lawyer tried to defend me.

“That’s not true. My client had never denied Ms. Howard seeing their daughter. She was the one who left him to raise her for the past five years,” Mr. Steve pointed out to the Judge.

It took everything in me to keep my cool. I wanted to slap that damn smirk off DeMarco’s face. Sitting over there in his expensive ass suit, legs crossed with his hands clasped together like he was the shit. So, the fuck what everything my lawyer said was a lie. This crooked ass judge didn’t need to know that.

“Okay, I think I heard enough. From what I’m seeing in this paperwork, Mr. Smith presented, there’s no proof of any child endangerment,” Judge McCormick said before addressing DeMarco’s lawyer. “I’m assuming you will be submitting the necessary paperwork for dismissal?”

“Yes, Your Honor,” he responded.
