3. The Taste (Gustatory) Sense

This sense takes information in through the taste buds in the mouth and throat. Our smell can also affect how we taste things, so these senses often work together.

The Good Differences

• Advanced flavour discrimination: For example, being able to pinpoint subtle flavours in food. This would be a great skill for wine or alcohol tasters, chefs, and food critics.

• Food creativity: Advanced taste senses may lead to creative skills in cooking, with enhanced ability to pair food or invent recipes. This would be extremely helpful for chefs and people working with food.

• Advanced ability to collect information through taste: For example, detecting changes to quality of food, which will benefit chefs and people working in food quality control. Also useful in security and forensics (again I’m thinking of a detective tasting a powdery residue to determine what poison it is, which is possibly fiction but it still seems like a great skill to me!).
