From the Corner to the Serpentine

The early stages of long reining are usually done around the whole school, until the horse goes straight and forwards without sucking back and without drifting away from the wall. Since the riding arena has four corners, the rider is confronted with the task of bending the horse and turning the corner four times during each lap around the arena, which is more difficult on long reins than under saddle. Once this exercise succeeds, changes of direction and other curved lines are added.
