Recently a massive tragedy in the upper reaches of Himalayas in the northern state of India led to the loss of thousands of human life due to cloud burst, massive flood and landslide. The TV footage showed the horrific tale of the survivors and the heroic efforts of our men in uniform from army, airforce and other security agencies. Life is too uncertain was proved once again and some of these uncertainties have been brought by us by playing with environment and viewing all activities of our life just through commercial lenses. There is no need to elaborate on what happened there but only to suggest that life is limited so do something that makes you worthy of its possession.
Self-control is the best control: The realisation is now slowly but surely setting amongst several thought leaders that self-control is the best way to make the world a better place to live. Unnecessary craving without realising that at the end we all want peace and tranquility in our lives has made many people return to their roots. Many busy executives have decided to take up less competitive jobs or assignments. They have taken up social cause such as setting up village schools, running social projects and even teaching. If each one of us becomes simple and peaceful the world will become as such. If each one of us becomes a better person then the world would become a better place to live, no doubt.
Do you agree? If yes then make small efforts in this direction from now onwards, every day.
I will be failing in my duty if I touch the subject of work life balance by just telling few interesting stories and giving some nice sounding tips. You may use them occasionally to manage your task, time or tension at the work place. But that is just scratching the surface of a bigger problem. There are hundreds of such self-help books already available and one more would do no good. My endeavor is to share how some of these teachings were understood during those critical period in Jeevaâs life and attempts that he made to take advantage of them. It was like the transformation journey for him, a âeurekaâ,24 moment. I must add that these thoughts were life defining for him, something that his swelling bank balance or several material possessions could never do for him. These efforts were not from a failed or dejected individual to embrace compromise or a story of âsour grapesâ. As a matter of fact after practicing these thoughts he got a feeling of being a bird floating in the vast empty sky unhindered. However, if some of theses practices did not result in any benefit to him then the blame was entirely on the lack of persistence and implementation. Jeeva meanwhile continues to work on these aspects of his life to gain better work life balance and improve every day.
Let us examine some of the principles for work life balance that were so useful to usher the transformation in Jeevaâs life.
