Knox asked her what her favorite type of food was and when she told him that it was Mexican food, he grinned and took her to a Mexican restaurant that she had never been to before. When she slid into the booth, Knox slid in next to her instead of across like she had been expecting. In her experience, super masculine men like Knox weren’t the type to show affection in public but she should have known by now that Knox wasn’t the typical type.

“What sounds good, baby girl?”

She scanned the menu, automatically searching for the salads.

“I’m going to get a salad,” she said as she looked over each one.

He gave her a stern look and raised an eyebrow.

That dang eyebrow.

“Little girl, look at me.” He said, waiting until she looked at him. “Do you actually want a salad, or do you think you need to order a salad because it’s fewer calories?”

Fuck. She was never going to get anything past Knox. He was too intuitive and nosy.

“Salads are good,” she said with forced enthusiasm.

“If you lie to me, I swear to God I will take you out to my truck and turn your bottom red. Salads are good sometimes. But not all the time. If you really truly want a salad, order a salad but if you want something else, order that.”

Biting her bottom lip, Addie looked from the menu back to Knox and then lowered her eyes.

“I really want nachos,” she admitted quietly.

He smiled approvingly.

“Thank you for being honest. Order nachos, baby girl.”

She smiled at him and nodded, leaning into his side. Lifting his arm, Knox wrapped it around her and pulled her in tighter to his side, pressing a kiss to the top of her head.

The server came and took their food orders and disappeared again.

“Will you tell me about your family? Your brothers? You seem to have a lot of brothers,” she said, peering up at him.

She felt Knox tense but when he looked down at her, he relaxed again.

“My past hasn’t always been easy, baby. I don’t come from a normal family. I have a lot of scars from my past. It’s one of the reasons why I know you could do so much better than me,” he said dryly.

“There is no one better than you,” she whispered.

Knox looked down at her and smiled softly.

“There is so much better than me out there. But I’m too fucking selfish to allow anyone else to have you.”

Glaring up at him, Addie couldn’t decide if she wanted to kiss him or punch him in the nose. How could he not see how wonderful he was?

“I’ve done a lot of bad shit in my life, baby. I’ve made a lot of mistakes, and I’ve done things that are bad that I don’t regret. I’m not a good man. But I want to be good for you,” he added.

“Tell me… I want to know everything about you,” she persisted.

“You’ll hate me once you know everything about me.”

Lowering her gaze from his, Addie wasn’t sure if she should push it.
