Knox asked her what her favorite type of food was and when she told him that it was Mexican food, he grinned and took her to a Mexican restaurant that she had never been to before. When she slid into the booth, Knox slid in next to her instead of across like she had been expecting. In her experience, super masculine men like Knox werenât the type to show affection in public but she should have known by now that Knox wasnât the typical type.
âWhat sounds good, baby girl?â
She scanned the menu, automatically searching for the salads.
âIâm going to get a salad,â she said as she looked over each one.
He gave her a stern look and raised an eyebrow.
That dang eyebrow.
âLittle girl, look at me.â He said, waiting until she looked at him. âDo you actually want a salad, or do you think you need to order a salad because itâs fewer calories?â
Fuck. She was never going to get anything past Knox. He was too intuitive and nosy.
âSalads are good,â she said with forced enthusiasm.
âIf you lie to me, I swear to God I will take you out to my truck and turn your bottom red. Salads are good sometimes. But not all the time. If you really truly want a salad, order a salad but if you want something else, order that.â
Biting her bottom lip, Addie looked from the menu back to Knox and then lowered her eyes.
âI really want nachos,â she admitted quietly.
He smiled approvingly.
âThank you for being honest. Order nachos, baby girl.â
She smiled at him and nodded, leaning into his side. Lifting his arm, Knox wrapped it around her and pulled her in tighter to his side, pressing a kiss to the top of her head.
The server came and took their food orders and disappeared again.
âWill you tell me about your family? Your brothers? You seem to have a lot of brothers,â she said, peering up at him.
She felt Knox tense but when he looked down at her, he relaxed again.
âMy past hasnât always been easy, baby. I donât come from a normal family. I have a lot of scars from my past. Itâs one of the reasons why I know you could do so much better than me,â he said dryly.
âThere is no one better than you,â she whispered.
Knox looked down at her and smiled softly.
âThere is so much better than me out there. But Iâm too fucking selfish to allow anyone else to have you.â
Glaring up at him, Addie couldnât decide if she wanted to kiss him or punch him in the nose. How could he not see how wonderful he was?
âIâve done a lot of bad shit in my life, baby. Iâve made a lot of mistakes, and Iâve done things that are bad that I donât regret. Iâm not a good man. But I want to be good for you,â he added.
âTell me⦠I want to know everything about you,â she persisted.
âYouâll hate me once you know everything about me.â
Lowering her gaze from his, Addie wasnât sure if she should push it.
