Chapter Eighteen

“Are you looking for this?” Cameron held the remote control.

Gabriel went for his gun. “It seems you want to die in their place.”

“I'm fine with not doing things nice and easy.” Cameron whipped out two weapons, as the man next to Gabriel suddenly dropped and hit the floor, compliments of her quick shot.

The other men with Gabriel went for their weapons. “I wouldn't move unless you're ready to die.”

“I suggest you find another way to finish your project,” Calvin said.

Cameron angled the gun directly for the center of Gabriel’s forehead. “Or I could put a bullet in him and make sure he never goes after your parents again.”

Gabriel’s hands inched up slowly.

“Don't make me regret not taking her up on that offer.” Calvin slipped out of the door several inches away. Cameron followed after firing three shots.

“He’s out, see you back at the house,” Cameron said as she moved near Calvin.

Calvin froze, tried not to look at the men spread out on the ground. “I thought you weren’t going to kill them.”

“I didn’t. They’ll wake up in an hour or so.” Cameron pushed him forward as they rushed toward his vehicle. “I’m not trying to get shot in the back.”

“I’m with you on that.” Calvin slid behind the wheel.

“We’ll need to find a way to shut him down.” Cameron continued to glance behind them. “Once you’re on a plane to Durabia, it will keep you out of his line of fire. Then Daron would only need to protect your parents.”

The door they exited was flung open. Several armed men came running out. He pressed the accelerator, creating more distance between them and the stone building. “You think he’ll go after them again?”

Calvin wanted this situation to be over. Cameron may have had a point, but the idea of being overseas if Gabriel went after his parents again disturbed him. He also didn’t like leaving Mia behind and giving Gabriel a chance to use her against him. At the end of the day, Calvin wondered if he should give Gabriel what he wanted simply for his own peace of mind. It wasn’t like the protection pod was a weapon. All it would do was line Gabriel’s pockets and protect some rich paranoid person. What was the harm in that?

“Depends on who is trying to purchase the protection pod.” Cameron snatched the cap off her head, letting the auburn curls cascade down her back. “I'll get the details from Daron and look into it.”

He took advantage of the drive home to get a little insight from Cameron. “How can I convince Mia to go to Durabia?”

“What reasons did she give for not consenting prior to you agreeing to the project?”

Calvin could name a few, but which one to say first?

She chuckled. “By your silence, that means you already made major miscalculations. That is not going to bode well for a favorable decision.”

The conversation that followed Cameron’s assertions was eye-opening. By the time Calvin was pulling into his garage, twenty minutes after
