Chapter 23
Newark, NJ
Tuesday November 25, 2008
12:15pm
Meanwhile, back in Newark, Vegas drove past Kings Restaurant on Lyons Avenue. He took a quick survey of the parking lot, then smiled when he saw the alpine-white BMW 750i parked near the entrance. He never forgot a vehicle. And because most street hustlers in Newark could be identified by their cars, he was one hundred percent sure that his mark was in the restaurant. Vegas drove a few feet ahead and quickly pulled over.
âOkay Skittlesâ¦heâs definitely in there.â He pulled out his cell phone and showed her a picture of his mark. âThis is the dude. Try to remember his face.â Rhonda sat up and looked at the photo. She didnât recognize the man but now she was never going to forget him. âRemember to sit directly across from him. He always watches the door.â
âVegasâ¦stop stressinâ!â Skittles said. She looked in the mirror and reapplied some cherry gloss to her lips. After a few moments, she put the lip gloss inside her Fendi handbag and pulled out a jet black P229 handgun. She double checked the clip to make sure her .40 caliber bullets were filled to the tip. Rhonda immediately realized that her new partner meant business. She watched Skittles closely as she put the automatic weapon back into her purse and looked at Vegas. âYou didnât bring me out here because you thought
I was gonna fuck this up. So let me do me!â
Vegas nodded his head and watched the women exit the vehicle.
âTake care of my cousin-in-law!â he yelled as Skittles slammed the door. He watched the women in his rearview mirror as they walked up the street. He smoothly drove off and searched for a spot to keep eye on the restaurant.
âSo whatâs the plan?â Rhonda nervously asked as she walked with Skittles.
âRight nowâ¦there is no plan,â Skittles confessed. âThe goal now is just to get next to this dude, and weâll make up the rest as we go. Just follow my leadâ¦okay?â
âWhatever you say!â Rhonda was beyond confused. She had no idea what was going on or what was about to happen. The women quickly entered the soul food restaurant. Skittles looked around the dining room. It didnât take long for her to identify the man on Vegasâ cell phone sitting alone near the window. Without warning, Skittles aggressively grabbed Rhonda by the arm and pulled her toward the register.
âCâmon bitch!â Skittles yelled. âYou said you wanted some lunchâ¦so here we are!â Rhonda was instantly shocked at Skittlesâ behavior. Her voice was loud enough for everyone in the restaurant to hear them.
âWait a goddamn minute, who you callinâ a bitch?â Rhonda snapped as she pulled away from Skittles.
âOh...itâs like that now?â Skittles yelled. âYou not my bitch now⦠after all these yearsâ¦whatâ¦you donât want to be with me no more? I told you I was sorry.â
Rhonda gave Skittles a funny stare. She paused for a moment and suddenly picked up on the game. âWhatever, girlâ¦whatever you want to do.â Rhonda looked around the restaurant in embarrassment.
