I pull myself away from Shula's lips, but it's the last thing I want to do. We've just spent the most incredible afternoon together on this island, and I don't want it to end.

As nervous as I felt when I woke, it's all a distant memory now.

Taming the jades was easier than expected, and even though I caught a busted wing, I had my mate there to heal me. She was fast too, which told me just how much my Queen loves me.

She smiles before dressing herself. “Was that another first?”

“It was.” And she knows it. “I've waited an eternity to do that.”

“Good job you did wait.”

I sense a spike of jealousy in her words before she smiles. I pull her back into my arms. “You don't need to be jealous of anyone.”

“Oh, I know that.”

“You better.” I inhale the fire from her throat before I release her this time, leaving her speechless.

Good.

I sigh before taking a quick look up at the clouds closing in. “We should get back. The clan will want to hear from us, and we still need to decide who’ll be going where.”

“I wondered when we'd be discussing that. I thought when you said we'd be going to Baska, you meant everyone.”

I shake my head. “No way. You didn't honestly think I'd put our baby mayks in danger, did you?”

“No, but you're the only alpha—”

“We.”

Her eyes soften. “Yes, but when it comes to kissing newborns, you're the only one who can do it. There are babies due, and I don’t want what happened to me to happen to them.”

“I understand, but I have plans to make new alphas before we leave the ones in hiding. It's about time I split the clan back into at least five, but we need the heads established first.”

“Who are you choosing?”

“Blaze and my sister, Hazra and Jia, Ignus and his mate, Adeline, who is currently with child, and Pretilois and Carmile.”

Her eyes alight. “That’s a very even split.”

“Between Kahli and Chihos?”

She nods.

“It’s only right. Besides, they’re more than ready to lead their own clans.”

“I thought you’d be choosing Lomi and Kamu.”

“They’ll lead their own clan one day, but they said they weren’t ready when I discussed it with them. As our numbers continue to grow, there’ll be more, just like there are others.”

“Good. I like that they were honest,” she muses.

“So do I.”

She suddenly smiles. “So does that mean I'll get to see you use another type of fire tonight?”

“It does.” I step closer to her. “Does that make my Queen happy?”

She nods before tiptoeing to kiss me, and then it’s another hour before we get off the island.
