Chapter Twelve

WINCHESTER

The object stuck to his cheek, irritated his skin with an annoying magical imprint, but Winchester lowered his arm. Fighting with Jozie wouldn’t further his agenda or gain her trust. If he demanded her confidence, then he must provide her with his faith.

Faith. Ha! Such an ironic way to put it when she led a scary-ass cult.

“Fine.” Winchester lifted his hands in a surrender fashion, eyeing her crew. Four men and the female that licked his face. He couldn’t feel his mojo beneath his skin and that was a terrifying experience. “You win and I seriously need your help. That wasn’t bullshit.”

According to their intel, the Amulet sought former possessors and the deadlier they were, the more the dark object reached out to them. That meant, the signal it emitted for Jozie to follow should be as strong as his nose for scenting magic.

“Bear, have Calvin send food to my office. I’m starving.”

“Right away, Celestial.” A huge male, easily over six feet and weighing at minimum three-twenty, bowed at the waist and strode away.

Winchester felt a little better after knowing he’d gotten a punch in on the hulk of a guy.

“Everyone go. I’ll be fine alone with him. Darla isolated his powers.”

“I won’t forgive or forget what you’ve done,” he said, glaring at the petite female.

Darla blew him a kiss and strode away. He watched her for a long moment, not because he liked what he saw, but because he resented the ease with which she’d neutered him.

“Funny how you didn’t mind raping me of my powers, but having yours removed means you’re ready to dole out some retribution.”

“You’re enjoying this too much.”

“I’m honestly not. The worst of my enemies doesn’t deserve that.” Jozie shook her head. “Someone bring King to my office. You,” she pointed at him, “Follow me.”

He’d remember the feel of this violation the next time he slapped cuffs on a Fallen. But he doubted it’d stop him from using them. If Jozie had of made it to prison, she would’ve been implanted with a device that permanently stripped her magic while incarcerated. “Only the guilty suffer the removal of their magic.”

Jozie led him along a limestone path hewed into the bedrock. The ZEA hadn’t realized she hid her followers in caves. It was pertinent information they could use against her after this mission.

“I never saw a judge, so who found me guilty?” They turned left, left, right, and went straight for a hike. Nothing but imbedded lighting guided their way. After a quick left and right, she opened a door and motioned for him to enter. “I never got my lawyer either.”

She would’ve seen a magistrate before being locked up, but he didn’t feel like getting into it with her. “Your red magic determined your guilt.”

“That’s funny. Sit.” She pointed to a chair as she ignored the desk for the sofa and flounced onto the furniture. Leaning forward, she placed her forearms on her knees. “Who decided red is bad? Blue is good. Purple, you watch.
