Heather goes on to describe why organizing for action is not just about promoting a cause but about bringing people together with respect and caring.
In that early movement, we talked about building a beloved community. A community where we treated each other with dignity and respect and caring. We supported each other, and we had a vision of what weâd like to see in the society we were building.
The big lesson, I think, is that if we want to make things better in this world, whether itâs in the environment or ensuring that people have healthcare or that we have the services we need or that you can afford school education, that all these things can happenâbut only if we organize. And that the way in which we should organize is to build a caring society with love at the center. We donât need to be alone; we can find others, we can build organization, we can build bonds of friendship, and with that, we can learn togetherânot to be perfect but to try together, and through our trying, learn both from our successes and even from our failures, as long as weâre in it together.
