Halifax Walk

The capital of Nova Scotia and the largest city in the Maritimes, Halifax is jam-packed with lively pubs, historic buildings, seafood restaurants, a fabulous art gallery, museums dedicated to seafaring and immigration, and an entertaining boardwalk along the waterfront.

DISTANCE: 2.6km

TIME: 1 Day

START: Halifax Citadel National Historic Site

END: Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21

POINTS TO NOTE: Many sights in Halifax are only open fully in the summer months (June to September); if you’re planning to visit any of the museums or historic sites, avoid doing this walk Monday or Tuesday, even in summer, as sights may be closed on these days. The tour can easily be completed on foot; the walk up and down the Citadel hill is short but fairly steep, however, and it is possible to be dropped off at the top entrance by Uber or regular taxi (Casino Taxi tel: 902-429 6666). Ongoing COVID-19 restrictions may impact the opening times listed below – check websites to confirm if you plan to visit a specific sight. For accommodation in Halifax, click here.
