5 Classification

Influenza encephalopathy is classified according to its pathophysiology into “hypercytokinemia type,” “excitotoxicity type,” and “metabolic disorder type.” In addition to these three groups, clinically mild encephalitis/encephalopathy with a reversible splenial lesion (MERS) is also significant (Table 12.1).Table 12.1Classification of the pathogenesis in influenza encephalopathy
