Chapter Seven

Diana

Wyatt peered inside. “Do I even have to ask whether you’ve checked to see whether this tunnel leads or not?”

I came up beside him, leaning against the sink. “I mean, that’s why you found me in your dad’s office,” I said, studying him as I spoke.

He faced me. “You’re saying my father killed Chloe?”

I shook my head. “No, I don’t think so. The secret passageway ends at your father’s office, but his isn’t the only entry or exit point.”

“Explain what you mean.” He touched the dried blood as he spoke.

I climbed up onto the sink. “How about I show you,” I said, lifting myself inside the hole.

“Is that a good idea?” he asked, but I heard him heft himself up onto the counter as well.

“Probably not, but I need to check something anyway.” I kept going until I reached the left turn and went that way. Continued, moving faster.

“Wait up,” Wyatt hissed.

“I got excited,” I said and paused, checking the walls. There still weren’t any squares with numbers.

“You have a damn fine behind, Moonlight.”

“Uh, thanks,” I said, grateful it was dark, not that he could see me blush anyway. After a few more seconds, I changed my position to crouching and continued to search the walls. It wasn’t until we could both stand that I saw the first square.

Wyatt came to stand beside me, and I glanced back the way we’d come just as the wall closed in on itself. Running back, I saw that it was number eighty-seven. I touched it, tracing the numbers with my fingers to memorize the eight and the seven.

“What are you doing?” Wyatt asked.

“I left through your dad’s office because I didn’t know which room was mine. See?” I pointed at the number. “My room is number eighty-seven, but there are a lot of numbers. With your father’s office being number one.” I ran left, and sure enough, there was a square with the number eighty-eight. “Anyone who knows the secret could access this corridor, sneak into someone else’s room, and then get back to their own. It didn’t have to be your father.”

“Are you saying that every bathroom mirror has a secret passageway behind it?”

I nodded once. “I think so. Should we go to your room and find out?”

“We definitely should,” he said, looking pissed.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, heading back to number eighty-seven.

“This means no one is safe. I can’t have you sleeping in your dorm by yourself.” He rested a hand on my hip, protectively.

“Fine, then I’ll sleep with you.” I gave him a sideways glance. “That’s where I want to be anyway.”

Relief washed over his features. “Diana,” he said, nuzzling against my cheek, so I felt the roughness of his. Then he stood. “How do we get out of here?”

“It only works with shifter magic,” I said.

“That makes sense.” He took a few steps back and waited.

“You just want to see me naked again, don’t you?” A shiver ran through me.

One side of his mouth curled up. “The thought crossed my mind.
