Susie Sin said, “Well, we might have some information to trade, you and I.” She checked her slim gold wrist-watch. “I’m running late. Rehearsal. They call it preparation, but we do a lot of one-liners and practice grinning at each other quite a bit. I’m on at six and ten, but I’ve got a couple of hours in between. I can’t divulge any of my sources, of course. To you or the other side.” The last part sounded like something that she said to everybody.

“Have you ever been to Joe Miller’s Bar?” Bino said. He was leaning against the corridor wall. Beyond Susie, the elevator doors were open and men and women were climbing aboard.

“On Lemmon Avenue? Once or twice. A lot of writers hang out there. Boy, and some really weird people.” Her pretty Oriental face tilted quizzically. Bino made her out to be around thirty, but she could have been older.

“Yeah, well . . . I go there occasionally myself,” Bino said. “You know, for something different. To get a gander at the weirdos.” He grinned. “How about seven-thirty? Hey, I appreciate this. I know you want to be objective in your coverage, Miss Sin.”

“I’ll be there.” She threw him another wink, one that was beginning to grow on him, then left him leaning there and took a few clickety-clack steps toward the elevator. She stopped and turned back to him. “Oh, and Mr. Phillips,” she said. “That stuff about newspeople wanting to be objective and unbiased is just like the story about networks giving equal time. They’re both a lot of bullshit.”
