Chapter 21

After breakfast the next morning, Brieanna went in search of the gardens. She had asked one of the women where she might find it. Upon exiting the keep, Brieanna had been instructed to follow the small stone path to the left, all the way around the large stone tower. It did not take long to reach the entrance, which was clearly marked with a wooden archway. The structure resembled a covered bridge with its ceiling held up by two large walls. The walls consisted of six wooden beams that lead from the ground all the way up to the top. There was plenty of wide open space between the boards that allowed lush green ivy to wind around the dark wood. The path led through the arch and down to a fork in the road. One way went to the north, the other to the south. She chose the southern path and continued on her way.

Brieanna had heard of these fixtures, but never expected to find something so magical inside Remiren Keep. It must have been a little of the modernization that Lord Kent had been bringing in to the keep. In the tiny pool below the waterfall swam a handful of tiny golden fish. Just near the base of the pond were three stone benches that allowed one to face the beautiful pond or the large foliage on the other side that backed up against tall green hedges.

When Brieanna had her fill of the southern edge of the gardens, she decided to retrace her steps and follow the path that would take her to the northern reaches. This portion was filled with different green topiaries mixed in with marble statues. She could not help but wonder at the decadence of such items. Who would have guessed that such beauty lay hidden inside the protected walls of Remiren?

Brieanna would have to speak with the gardener or groundskeeper to find out where she could plant her own plot of herbs. While she had seen quite a few plants that
