Commanding Angels?

Some people talk about commanding God’s angels to go and do their bidding. I personally don’t see any support in scripture for Christians to command angels what to do. Neither do I see any need for us to command them. When I read the stories scripture records of people encountering angels, the idea of our telling them what to do seems dubious.

In my view, we don’t need to command angels what to do. Rather, we declare God’s word, and they respond to his word. They obey the Lord. Angels do respect the authority God has given men over his creation, and so they eagerly wait for us to add our “Amen” to God’s “Yes.”

I don’t command angels. Instead, I say something like, “In Jesus’ name, may the peace of God fill your body right now. May the peace of God drive out everything that isn’t in heaven.” I simply agree with what I already know is God’s will. When I do so, the Lord usually chooses to minister his peace through an angelic messenger. People often tangibly feel something touching them. This happens regularly.

I have prayed for people many times by holding my hand six inches away from their body, or extending my hands towards them from even a greater distance. They’ve often felt a hand on their body when I was not touching them, sometimes even thinking my hand was actually on them. When I came into agreement with the Lord’s will by extending my hands, an angel laid hands on them to minister. This has been a sign from the Lord for many people.

On one occasion I offered a guy a ride to the local rescue mission. As I was getting into my truck to leave, I saw a man on crutches. I jumped back out and talked with him, then I stood in front of him, extended my hands towards his knees, and said “In Jesus’ name, knees be healed.”

Not only did the Lord touch his knees and the pain left, but he began to physically feel hands kneading and pressing on his knees. No human was touching him! He said “The hands are pressing on my knees just like the physical therapist does!”

Two more times, I was just getting in my truck and about to leave, and I saw a person who needed to be healed so I jumped back out! And the Lord touched both of them as well.
