Belly Breathing
Yoga breathing is also called “belly” or “balloon” breathing. Here’s how you do it:
Imagine that you have a balloon inside you, with the round end at the bottom of your stomach and the opening in your throat.
As you breathe in, imagine the air filling first the bottom of the balloon, deep in your belly, then slowly coming higher as it fills up the balloon in your upper stomach, your chest, and finally your throat. Put one hand on your stomach and the other on your upper chest, and you will feel first your belly rise and then your chest.
