I walked into Jasmine’s room and broke down at the door, seeing her like that. I tried to protect her the best that I could, but when she needed me the most I couldn’t help it. She was laying there, with a bandage around her head, two black eyes, with one swollen so badly that there was no way it was going to open anytime soon. There was a sling on one of her arms, a bandage wrapped around her rib cage, and her emotional pain was written all over her face. I climbed into the bed with her, crying and trying not to move the bed too much, while Malika climbed on the other side of her.

“Alicia is outside saying her goodbyes to Cornell, but she will be in shortly.” I told her, because she was looking around the room for her.

“Who did this to you, Jasmine? Was it Ty? He was the only one you were with? Please tell me so we can get him.” She kept saying that it wasn’t Ty, but they did have a fight; she kept saying that she got out the car, somewhere, when somebody snatched her up.

“I’m going to believe you, right now, but I know you don’t want to tell us what really happened. Why didn’t you let Ty come see you?” She just said that she didn’t want him to see her like that, because the relationship was still new. I gave her the side eye with that shit, but I respected the answer, trying not to upset her. Alicia walked in and started crying, as soon as she looked at Jasmine, not believing someone would do that to another person.

“Ty said for you to call him when you wanted to see him. He didn’t want to just come back here when it was certain people you requested. He said to tell you that he’ll be thinking about you and that he wants you to get better soon.” Alicia repeated the message, as if she was a tape recorder.

Me and Alicia stayed at the hospital every night, but made sure someone was always there, watching her room. Ty came up a few times during the day when he thought no one was there, but only stayed an hour at the most, which was reported by one of the guys that Darrell hired to watch her. Mo came every day after Ty left and stayed all day, until Alicia or myself got there. Jasmine stayed in the hospital for about three weeks, recovering from that traumatic event.

When they discharged her, I picked her up, drove by the pharmacy to get her prescriptions, and went back to her house. She was still walking a little slow but her eye was now open and she could move her right arm. She was still having headaches, which the doctor said was going to happen, and her ribs were healing, but the mental and emotional pain will probably never go away. Of course, they offered
