CHARLIZE THERON
Charlize: I can’t smoke weed anymore.
Howard: Me neither. Too paranoid?
Charlize: Not paranoid. I just become so uninteresting. I don’t want to talk. I literally just switch off. I have nothing to say.
Howard: You live in Hollywood. Do you have a medical marijuana card?
Charlize: I do not, no. But everybody around me does.
Howard: Everyone has edibles. They’re walking around with all kinds of weed.
Charlize: Yeah. In my twenties, I was a wake-and-baker. And then one day I just couldn’t do it anymore. One day I just sat on the couch and couldn’t move.
Howard: You try anything heavier? Did you ever do coke or acid?
Charlize: I definitely experimented, yeah.
Howard: X?
Charlize: Yeah.
Howard: Did it make you crazy?
Charlize: No, I had a fucking great time on it.
Howard: You liked it?
Charlize: Yeah.
Howard: Did you get touchy-feely with people?
Charlize: Yeah.
Howard: Oh, Jesus. Where the hell was I?
Charlize: [laughs] I didn’t do a lot of it. But definitely, in my twenties, I would always feel like maybe if I had kids I would be missing out on this life. And then I hit my thirties and I was so fucking done with it. I had the best twenties ever because I did everything I wanted to do. And so there’s not a part of me now that goes, “God, I so wish I . . .” I was done. I’m done.
Howard: So when you have kids now—you have two kids—you’re not sitting there pining away for the old life?
Charlize: I am asleep by eight forty-five, and I fucking love it.
