Anger

Just before you show anger in action or speech, pause and think about what you are about to do. The pause is vital to taking a wise look at the possible consequences and reactions. Pausing is especially helpful if you are going to say or write something. If you lash out in anger, the person you are wanting to communicate with may walk away or not write back, and you will be left in a place where you know that expressing your anger did not alleviate the problem.

Pausing lets you see that there is nothing gained from getting angry. You can smile to your ignorance and breathe out. Letting go is the better way to deal with anger. Since very few people—even when confronted—admit they are wrong, by not confronting them you relieve yourself of having to deal with a situation that could cause you more suffering or anger. Letting go of anger and not confronting others is a preventative exercise, because by doing so you do not have to expend the time and energy that is necessary to repair the damage that your anger might have caused.

Uproot anger by acknowledging it as a state of mind, by naming it, and by giving it space. Shine the light of awareness on anger, and it will lose its hold over you. Feeling and showing compassion is the better response.
