A real family that was not only making a formal commitment to each other on the beach today but he knew it was glued together with genuine love for each other—something he’d thought he would never have in his life. He had a relationship with Jonno that was getting closer than it had ever been before. He had the absolute joy of having Felix in his life too, but the totally unexpected icing on the cake was the connection he’d found with Elsie Henderson—the mother of his new daughter-in-law. The grandmother of his precious grandson.

A woman he was coming to care about on a level that went far beyond the enjoyment of her company or the deep physical attraction that was something else he’d never expected to find again.

Brie told Jonno that she had fallen in love with him even before she’d met him because she heard his voice so often over the radio and knew what a hero he was in his job. She told him that he had never known, but he’d been missed every day of her life since they had met, by both herself and then their son, because he knew that his father was a hero and he’d loved him even before he’d met him too.
