Utila Dive Centre, Mango Inn, PADI CDC, T2425-3326, www.utiladivecentre.com. Well-maintained equipment, daily trips to north coast in fast dory, recommended. All boats covered and custom-built, surface interval on cayes. Utila Watersports, T2425-3264, run by Troy Bodden. 4 students per class. Troy also hires out snorkelling gear, photographic and video equipment and takes boat trips. Good reports.

Whale Shark & Oceanic Research Centre (WSORC), T2425-3760, www.wsorc.com. A professional scientific organization committed to education and preserving Utila’s oceans, offers speciality courses including whale shark research, naturalist courses, research diver, fish ID, Coral ID. Free presentation 1930 Sun nights about whale sharks.

Transport

Air Utila receives flights from Tegucigalpa, La Ceiba and Roatán. Domestic airlines serving the Bay Islands include Aerocaribe, Aerolineas Sosa, CM Airlines, Isleña/Sansa Regional, Island Air and Lanhsa. International airlines include American Airlines, United, Delta, Sunwing and Taca (for more information, see here).

Boat Services to/from Utila with the Utila Princess, T2408-5163, www.utilaprincess.com, La Ceiba–Utila 0930 and 1600; Utila–La Ceiba, 0620 and 1400, US$25. Daily sailings Utila–Roatán, on Captain Vern’s catamaran Nina Elisabeth II, T3346-2600 (mob), or ask at Gunter’s Dive Shop on Utila and Coconut Divers, Half Moon Bay, Roatán. US$55 one way, no fixed schedule. Dock fee required when leaving Utila (US$1)
