Write a sweet word of thanks or harvest quotes on strips of paper and fasten to the outside of glasses with double-sided tape. When Thanksgiving guests are seated, invite them to read the quote aloud.

Maple Syrup Cookies

These cookies are good to serve to your kids with milk when they come home from school on a cool fall day.

1 t. baking soda

1 T. milk

1 egg, beaten

1/2 c. plus 2 T. shortening

1 c. maple syrup

3 c. all-purpose flour

1 T. baking powder

1/2 t. salt

1 t. vanilla extract

10-oz. pkg. chocolate chips

Dissolve baking soda in milk; set aside. Stir together egg, shortening and syrup until mixture is smooth. Add flour, baking powder, salt, vanilla and baking soda mixture; blend well. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes. Makes 4 dozen.
