Dear Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Applin,

We are writing to tell you of the wonderful news of our son, Samuel, who was born at the end of May and is in very good health. Mr. Chase and I are also well and anticipate the move to Prudence. The pox has been spreading in Boston, and we are quite eager to take our baby out of the city, but we must wait until he is strong enough for the journey. Mr. Chase hopes all is well with the roads and the trees you are felling in anticipation of building our homes. Mr. Garson, Mr. Williams, and Mr. Oglesby are all ready to come as well. Please write in haste if there is any change to our plans; otherwise, you can expect us to arrive at the very end of August. We hope all is well with both of you and that you are in good health.
