Beginning in 1917 motorized autos ruled Yellowstone’s roads. In the years following more and more tourists drove to the park and camped out. This circa 1923 Jack E. Symbols of the New West, automobiles claimed Yellowstone’s roads for themselves in 1917 and never looked back in the rear-view mirror (although many did not have a rear-view mirror at the time). Transportation operators adjusted by purchasing open-air touring cars to transport railroad visitors around the park, some stage drivers trading reins
