The restaurant was cute, with the traditional Italian vibe I had hoped for when I first looked it up. But as nice as the restaurant’s vibe was inside, the food was definitely the main event. Just two sips of the locally sourced wine and a bite of their bread, and I knew Italy must be like a gateway to heaven.

After scanning over the menu and trying to figure out what each dish was, I ordered a rigatoni carbonara with blackened chicken. And it was amazing!

At least, the first three bites were…

Because just when I was preparing myself to walk out of here stuffed to the gills, a tall, dark-haired man walked into the restaurant. And with how closely he resembled Evan, at least from behind, I suddenly became a ball of nerves.

I held my breath as I watched the man, waiting for him to turn around enough that I could see his face and figure out if my missing fiancé had just stepped inside for a late bite to eat.

But when the hostess led him and his date to one of the tables nearby and I got a better look, while the man did have a lot of features similar to Evan, it wasn’t him.

Which I guess was good because I probably would have been sick if the first time I saw Evan in a year, he was out with a beautiful, Italian woman.

But it did serve as a reminder that Evan could be here at the resort right now—possibly in the very same restaurant as me.

And the thought that he could be so close…just around any corner, turned my appetite from ravenous to finicky.

I did get a few more bites of pasta in me as I glanced around the restaurant. But when it was time to go and the waiter had boxed up my food for me, I made my way back to my room with no sight of Evan.

I slept restlessly that night, my brain chaotic and running on an anxious loop with thoughts of what might happen while I was here.

But since I wanted to get on a semi-decent sleep schedule, when my alarm went off at nine the next morning, instead of hitting snooze several times like I wanted, I made myself get up.

Once I was showered and ready for the day, I grabbed my bag and headed down the elevator. Because while Ian might have told me to stay out of trouble until he and his bodyguards got here this evening, I could at least grab a quick bite to eat and buy the tickets to the gala, right?

A ticket for myself and Ian—who, I guess, would look like he was my new, replacement fiancé for the week. Which would probably work out better than the invisible fiancé I’d told the man at the front desk about last night.

I stopped at the front desk after exiting the elevator. Lorenzo wasn’t there, but the woman behind the desk also spoke English, so I was able to buy my tickets without too much difficulty.
