CHAPTER SEVEN

MAYBE he really was some kind of pervert after all.

Adam scowled hard as he drove towards Dana’s house. The house that, as it turned out, was so much closer to his than he’d ever realised before ‘getting to know her’.

But, realistically, what other reason could there possibly be for this sudden fierce attraction he was experiencing for a pregnant female?

The simple truth was that it wasn’t just any old pregnant female. It was Dana Taylor. Dana Taylor of the many faces—faces he was discovering on a daily basis. It was all rather a lot to take in.

Under normal circumstances he’d have gone and talked to Jack about the whole thing. A man-to-man talk to make sense of all things female. It was what they’d always done before—in a roundabout, football-analogies-used kind of way. But this time he was on his own—on his own at the one point in his life when he could really have done with some sensible advice.

His frown turned to a small smile at the irony in that statement. He was going to seek sensible advice from Jack? Jack, the best friend who had given up the bachelor lifestyle in favour of home and hearth? Oh, yeah, he could just imagine how advice from him would help. And as to the other football-cum-drinking buddies he had? Once they’d finished laughing they’d tell him to run like hell…

It wasn’t that Adam was some kind of rebel, refusing to conform to the ways of society by avoiding relationships or a commitment to another human being. Hell, no. He had everything in place, didn’t he? He had a career and a good income and he owned his own home. He was a well-rounded guy. He simply had no desire whatsoever to go out and get settled with a woman just yet. Wasn’t that a normal thing?

Well, not for most of the guys he knew the same age as him, it wasn’t. ‘You just haven’t met the right woman yet.’ That was the line normally aimed at him from varying directions—most of them female, it had to be said. A way for others to explain why he was still single, he guessed. And maybe it was true. He’d never felt so strongly about a female that he couldn’t imagine his life without her in it. There had never even been the vaguest pull in that direction before.

Well, that wasn’t strictly true, he admitted. There had been that one time, when he’d felt a tug so strong… But she’d had no interest in him, despite his fascination with her, so there hadn’t been a thing he could do about it. He’d just had to get over it. So he had. Several times, actually.

But now there was this thing he had developed with Dana. Beyond being parents together, there was a something there—something new that he couldn’t explain or reason away. It was making him crazy. And as for Dana—hell, the woman changed moods like the weather!

Add to all that the fact that it was now Thursday, and he hadn’t spoken to his family yet, and life was just great.
