Chapter 7

“Li it’s great to see you!” she screamed and flew into her brother’s arms. He held her to him tightly and inhaled her special scent of some flowery perfume.

She had arrived at her parents’ home a little past seven because she had spent most of the time arguing with Peter on whether or not to take one of his cars. He had wanted to give her one or buy one for her but she had refused. “What’s wrong with me giving you things?” he had asked her impatiently.

“Absolutely nothing; if the things you are giving me are chocolates and flowers or maybe perfumes, but a car? I don’t think so.” She had told him firmly.

They had spent the night making love and he had made her breakfast in bed. When she had told him that she wanted to go home and get dressed at her apartment, he had taken her there to get some clothes and they had gone back to his apartment. He had insisted that she only wear one of his T-shirts so that he had access to her whenever he wanted.

“At least borrow one of the vehicles.” He had told her in frustration. “I am going to worry about you taking a cab in this weather.” It had turned out to be rainy and cold and the wind had been howling in the trees.

“Okay,” she had told him grudgingly, absolutely refusing to take the BMW. “I am going to have to field off too many questions and I am not very good at lying.”

“What are you going to tell them about this vehicle?” he had asked her curiously.

“I’ll figure something out. I’ll probably tell them that the man I am screwing is so impressed by my performances in bed that he gave me this in gratitude.” He stared at her shocked.

She burst out laughing. “You should see the look on your face Peter,” she leaned out of the vehicle and kissed him on the mouth. “I’ll see you later.”

“Drive safe,” he had told her softly, missing her already.

Doctor Lorelei Gooden was a cool blonde with beautiful blue eyes and flawless skin and Selena realized that she was nervously waiting for her approval. “What on earth do you see in him?” she teased, hugging the surprised girl.

Lorelei relaxed and sighed with relief. “He makes me laugh.”

Her mother had served up a fancy fare of mounds of crisp fried chicken, potato salad, baked potatoes and macaroni and cheese. For dessert there was sweet potato pie and homemade vanilla ice cream.

Lionel told them about meeting up with Lorelei again. “There I was sitting in the coffee shop and wondering what on earth I was going to do when I looked up and saw her framed in the doorway, looking like a lost angel.” He turned to look at her and the others at the table could see the look of love that passed between them.

Selena felt a twinge of jealousy inside her and she shook it off decisively. She was happy for them.
