Inside Deselms Fine Art. Jill Pope.

One of the artists who displays her work at the gallery brought in a medium who claims to cleanse places of spirits. Harvey has never had a problem cohabiting with the spirits in his gallery, but he allowed her to walk through. At the time, Harvey had not yet learned of Mrs. Herbert’s demise in the home. He did know about Allen Ross’s murder, but initially he did not share the information with the medium. She told him that there were certainly spirits in the home. She said that all old homes would have some residual energy, but this was more, much more. She asked to go upstairs. When she came down, she said there was a spirit of a woman hiding and scared up there. The woman had told the medium to go away and not to bother her anymore. Harvey was stunned when I later told him about the Blankenship murder.

During a trolley tour in 2005, one of the riders said that he used to be a tenant upstairs. He mentioned that weird things were always happening with the lights. He was an electrician, so he was able to discern what was caused by old wiring and what was unexplainable. Interestingly, the upstairs tenants in 2007 reported seeing a phantom cat on a regular basis. They also had doors opening on their own.

Returning to the Allen Ross murder, the story unfolded like this. Allen was a filmmaker living modestly in Chicago. Friends described Allen as a quirky, artist type who was charming, sincere, hard-working and witty. In 1992, Allen met Linda Greene, and his life would be forever changed. The two quickly became a couple, and he seemed enamored by her. Before his family and friends knew it, he was moving to rural Guthrie Oklahoma with Linda, though none of them had even met her. Allen stayed in touch, often sending postcards and calling on holidays and important occasions. In the fall of 1995, Allen was doing a film with friend and colleague Christian Bauer in New Orleans, this being the seventh movie they had collaborated on. Linda showed up unannounced and whisked Allen away. Christian was surprised by her personality. He found her demanding and controlling, not at all what he had expected. Allen acted submissive toward her, which Christian thought to be out of character. That would be the last time he saw Allen. In April 1995, Allen and Linda, along with Linda’s ex-husband Dennis Greene and her wealthy best friend Julia Williams, moved to Cheyenne together and rented the cute white house at the corner of Seventeenth Street and House Avenue. Allen’s family knew something was seriously amiss when he failed to contact his twin brother’s on their birthday. Then Thanksgiving and Christmas went by with no word from Allen. Police searched the home after Allen’s twin brother called and reported him missing. They found nothing. Time dragged on with no word from Allen, and it was as if he had vanished.
