This was torture. It felt good, too good in fact, to have Jessie’s hands on him again, but torturous all the same.

The way Jessie was working her magic on his back felt like an intimate, sensual act they’d participated in when they’d been lovers, making him feel things other than muscular relief. He hadn’t helped himself by bringing up memories of the time when she’d nursed him through a nasty flu. With his family oblivious, calling him a drama queen, she’d been the one cooling his brow and bringing him soup. Okay, he might have prolonged his illness for that very reason, enjoying the attention, but they’d both benefitted in the end. He’d repaid Jessie’s kindness over and over again when he’d recovered.

Given the chance to do things over again, he would have fought harder to keep her in his life all those years ago. He would rather have had her in his life above all else and it would have saved him the heartache of trying to replicate their relationship with someone who clearly wasn’t Jessie.

‘Are you okay? I don’t think I’ve ever had such a quiet patient.’ Jessie stopped the massage to check on him.

He couldn’t tell her he was focusing hard on not enjoying her touch too much. Groans of appreciation would not have been appropriate in the circumstances. Regardless that her technique was primarily stretching out knots and not for pleasure, he was enjoying the pounding she was giving him.

‘Sorry, I was just thinking about my surgery tomorrow.’

Liar.

Jessie tutted. ‘You need to take better care of yourself. I’m going to work on some exercises for you to stretch out that back and improve your posture in the meantime. Do you think you can sit up again?’

Cameron tested his neck muscles, first turning his head so he could look at her. ‘So far, so good.’

She took a step back, giving him some room to push himself back up into a sitting position. ‘Good. You look a bit more flexible.’

He slipped his shirt back on and stood to stretch out his back a bit more. ‘That seems much better. Thank you.’

‘No problem.’

Having Jessie back in his life was confusing and disruptive. It was also playing havoc with his schedule when he was putting in more hours at her hospital currently than anywhere else in the hope of seeing more of her.

In a parallel universe they might have rekindled that teenage love. He’d realised that he still harboured wants and needs involving Jessie during their impromptu physio session. It didn’t help when he’d caught her staring at him half naked, that lingering look telling him she was still interested.

If there was one thing he didn’t need it was knowing that Jessie might be having regrets about ever ending things between them.

‘Is this another one of those moments where I want to kiss you as much as you want me to?’ he asked with a grin, pulling her towards him, finally giving in to those urges.
