Back Room Boy

I wrote the poem that Tommy read

In assembly today

I volunteered to be the one

Who puts the paints away

I am the playtime monitor

I take Miss Moss her tea

If someone’s needed for a job

Then that someone is me

I passed the ball to Sarah

And Sarah scored the goal

I rehearsed the play with Tina

Prepared her for the role

I like to work behind the scenes

Not in the spotlight’s glare

But I thought I’d write this poem

To remind you I am there

Roger Stevens

A Song about Myself

There was a naughty boy,

And a naughty boy was he,

He ran away to Scotland

The people for to see –

There he found

That the ground

Was as hard,

That a yard

Was as long,

That a song

Was as merry,

That a cherry

Was as red –

That lead

Was as weighty,

That fourscore

Was as eighty,

That a door

Was as wooden

As in England –

So he stood in his shoes

And he wonder’d

He wonder’d,

He stood in his

Shoes and he wonder’d.
