The trek back through the Amazon wasnât as hard as it was coming in. I think that came from us now knowing partially where we were going. Vivian had us all blindfolded again to keep the gateway a secret, and I respected her position as the gatekeeper.
Some things were not meant for the worldâs knowledge. Now that we were on a plane, everyone collapsed into their seats. Vivian and Blake could clearly see what our trip to Purgatory was like.
She handed me a shot of tequila before sitting across from me. âThat bad, huh?â
âWorse,â I grunted after taking the shot with hers. My eyes darted toward Mel as Mike guided her to the back of the plane where an actual bed was. She needed more rest than she wanted any of us to be aware of.
To our side, I could hear Blake asking my men what Purgatory was like. They each told him little bits of the odd world of personal hells. The two suns that didnât last as long as ours. Well, it probably couldâve given Alaskaâs sun a run for its money in the winter time.
Randy kept telling him about how the creatures looked. Apparently, he had been fascinated by them, but he hated being stunned and paralyzed for a bit there.
âYour friends seem awfully chatty about the adventure. How come youâre not?â Her wise eyes knew I had more on my mind now that we completed our mission.
Sighing, I rubbed my temples, leaning forward on the table between us. âI know we had to do what we did, and we accomplished it. Not in the way we planned, but the outcome of not letting them come back, worked.â
âWhat do you mean not in the way you planned?â Vivian had a flight attendant pour us each a stiff drink. I didnât hesitate to take it.
âLuce killed Meta-dick before I got his grace. Improvising, we stole Godâs grace and put it into him. Iâm not sure what repercussions are going to follow from that.â
âYou killed God?â she gasped.
âYeah. I was the one who ripped his grace clean from his neck. Like I said, Iâm not sure what thatâs going to mean for any of us.â
âWho will run Heaven?â she asked.
âShit like that. I didnât give it much thought while we were in there. I didnât have the time. If I didnât get his grace then, Lucifer wouldâve come back soulless.â
âHow come I feel like thereâs more youâre not sharing?â Vivian sipped her cocktail.
On another exhale, I knew I needed someone to know. I needed someone on my side if shit hit the fan. To gain an ally, the best way was through honestly. âWhen we researched removing oneâs grace to put it into a soulless, they gain the attributes and powers of the former host.â
âYouâre nervous what might come from Lucifer getting new powers,â she deducted.
âYeah. To sum it up, thereâs just a lot that worries me over it. Iâm just trying to keep a clear head. My enemies are gone, and I have my family back.
