Using two equal-sized balls of clay, make two identical pinch pots, to be joined at the rim.

Score the rim of each pot and add slip to secure them together: join firmly and wipe away any excess slip.

Blend the join with a tool and smooth the surface to complete an egg-shaped form. Make a small hole in the base to allow air to escape when firing.

Map out the features; it can be useful to refer to a drawing or image. Push into the clay for hollows and add clay to build up areas such as the brow and nose.
