The qualities that are needed to lead in the 21st century include the ability to connect, team up, empathize, and be innovative— qualities that are altogether “female” inclined in nature. Women in leadership roles position their organizations in a manner that makes them fit for the future. Invariably, organizations that are led by inclusive leadership teams make better decisions that deliver better results in both the public and private sector.

Women’s leadership is so important for the reason that this complete benefit of half the world’s population’s talent, capacity, creativity, and ideas has been unused for a very long time.

As women’s leadership is the foundation in the direction of a more all-encompassing, equal, balanced and sane society; developing an atmosphere that allows women to have a full and equal voice in institutions, businesses, politics, corporations, and the media, etc., will grow a society and culture that allows us to listen to the other important voices, specifically those of women who are so marginalized.

The latter is either realized peacefully by taking the initiative required or we can expect discontent and conflict from the disregarded gender in society.

Through women’s innate leadership, mentorship, nurturing, and empowerment, they can create long lasting impact and leave an enduring legacy for the simple fact that diversity in leadership breeds innovation.

Women’s leadership matters because women can and will lead the way in creating a more sustainable future with their inborn capabilities such as collaboration, a great sense of detail, relationship building, empathy, and the ability to focus on the greater good. Women are more than half the population in the world, yet they are not given equal participation in all spheres of life. What this means is that the world is basically using half of its talent and often hearing half of the story.

As long as this grave discrepancy in leadership continues, women and girls will remain marginalized, second-class citizens. The imbalance of power informs everything we impart, and instill in our children and consequently the way they we relate in the world.

Women are more likely to lead in a manner that will profit the world in general because, when they make decisions, they consider the effect on their children, the unborn generation and the future.

The male voice still controls the public square. Women are a vocal minority in politics, corporate board rooms, media, and congress, etc.

The world will pay the price of women being voiceless because a woman’s perspective is different, essential and very important. Women’s opinions can transform viewpoints and developments that allow for parity, inclusiveness, resiliency, and sustainability. It will drive change, break down barriers, and release the limitation of choices available to women.

Our global society is highly complex and the complexity theory, neuroscience, and social science point to the importance of diversity in managing complexity. Women are also socialized for collaborative approaches to communication, which are vital to leading in complex environments. Thus, women can make important contributions to the world.

The world needs change in leadership. Old standards need to be changed into new ways of doing things and reinventing cultures in organizations.
