In Shady Bend, east of Grand Island, the Spanish Revival service station is now a popular cafe serving home cooked meals and desserts.

The original road turns left at Shady Bend, onto what is now Shady Bend Road, then turns right half a mile later onto Seedling Mile Road. This was the site of a 1915 concrete Seedling Mile. A mile later, it crosses U.S. Route 30. (Of course, U.S. 30 wasn’t there in 1915, and now, traffic is blocked from crossing the highway.) On the north side of U.S. 30 is Ken singer’s Service and Supply (originally Stuhr’s); a remnant of the Seedling Mile can be seen branching behind the small, square station built in the late 1930s. This short stretch is the only original Seedling Mile concrete remaining along the entire highway. Nebraska had two more Seedling Miles at Elk-horn and Kearney, plus a late one at Fremont and a possible one south of Columbus.
