The front of the Culp ’50 Merc coming at you must have been a sight to see in the day. The low profile with a shark-like open jaws was an awesome look. Courtesy of the Culp Collection.

Wayne had the hood done first; the seam down the middle was welded together, leaded, and sanded. Lenny crafted a peak that extended from the back down and over the nose. Not stopping there, the hood corners were rounded, and midway down the side of the hood edge, a scoop was formed. This was another one of Lenny’s subtle touches. The grille opening was next. It was a shaped and molded opening made to fit the ’54 Chevy grill with nine teeth. The front headlights were next and both frenched very nicely, to blend into the look. The side of the car maintained the smooth look with a single chrome strip extending from the front wheel wells to the taillights. Also added were drag pipes from front wheel well to rear wheel well; this visual effect makes your eyes follow the long length of the car front to rear in one continuous motion.
