Layla, Zuri, Brianna and I had on Christmas music and shit, it felt good doing this with my girls. You wouldnât know that we werenât together if you saw the interaction that we all had. Everything was fucked up, but I was making it right. There were a few loose ends on my part, but it would be taken care of soon.
âDaddy, did you see my list?â Layla asked.
I laughed at the long ass list that she tried to write out. She spelled the majority of the words right, but she had crazy shit on it like a pony. I would go and get the finest pony for my baby girl because thatâs how much I loved her.
âI got it, baby, and your mama did too. What do you really want off the list? And Bri, whatâs on your list?â I asked.
After picking up an ornament, I grabbed Layla so she could put it high up on the tree before doing the same with Brianna.
âI want my baby brother, but Mommy says heâs still baking. Um⦠I want my LOL collection, a bike, skates, oh yeah, a cheetah tutu, andâ¦â She put her finger up to her face and tapped it like she was thinking hard. âAnd to wake up to you and Mommy on Christmas. Aunty Stormy said weâre going to bake cookies and pass them out. I want everybody, so we can sing, play, and have fun, Daddy,â she cheerfully replied, not knowing that it was already in motion.
âI want a phone, Uncle Rocco.â Brianna smiled.
âMe too. I want a phone too.â
âWhatâs wrong with the one you have, Bri?â I asked her spoiled ass. Every time we turned around, we were spending bags on all their asses.
âIt doesnât have a camera on it.â
âOoooh, I want a camera phone, Daddy.â
Zuri was behind her, shaking her head, but how could I say no?
âWeâll see. Iâll talk with Storm and Gotti.â
âYou know Uncle Gotti isnât going to get me another one.â
âYou never know.â I winked.
âI want my list for sure.â Layla made sure we heard her.
Zuri wasnât fucking with me, but Iâd be damned if we didnât do the holidays together when weâd been together for a couple of them and never missed a beat. Holidays have never been good on my end. I remember strapping for something to call my own for a while until I hustled and was able to buy myself some lilâ shit. Once youâve been alone in this world, all that family-oriented stuff doesnât hit home for you. I would avoid family functions in the orphanage and group homes just so I didnât get sad. Iâd go out and hit the streets to make money and come back the next day after the hype was over.
âWe got you, baby girl.â
âCan we go and watch TV now?â she asked, causing us to look in each otherâs direction because her ass was amped to do this earlier, and now she wanted to bail.
âWe thought you wanted to do this, Layla?â Zuri quizzed, putting down what she was doing.
