Juan Uribe triggered “a lot of happy” with his walk-off sacrifice fly in Game 4 of the 2010 NLCS.
In one back-and-forth classic, Giants fans saw Sandoval redeem a wasted summer and give birth to a career as a postseason hero. They saw Casilla and Romo give up leads only to keep their composure and record huge outs. They saw Posey become baptized as more than a talented rookie but a fully formed superstar, with four brilliant hits and an astounding, run-saving defensive play.
In the postgame interview room, someone asked Posey if he could digest what he’d just done.
“I helped the team win,” he said. “I guess that’s how I digest it.”
But did he understand that it was an epic night in a postseason game?
“Well, thank you.”
It might have been the night that the Giants forged their well-deserved reputation as the toughest October team in recent baseball history.
They kept on fighting to extinguish the Phillies and win the pennant. They lost Game 5 and had to return to Citizens Bank Park, but Bochy drew a line in the sand. In a non-elimination Game 6, he used three-fourths of his starting rotation—Lincecum and Bumgarner appeared in relief—to win a pennant-clinching game that featured a bases-clearing incident and more back-and-forth drama. Uribe accounted for the tiebreaking run that night, too, with a home run in the eighth inning.
In the aftermath of Game 4, he once again found the essence.
“I go home now, be with my family,” said Uribe. “And be a lot of happy.”
Uribe repeated those same four words over and over through waves of interviews: “A lot of happy.”
There was no better description after a draining, dramatic, and joyous night at AT&T Park.
