Cone

Figure 62. A cone

The surface area of a cone consists of the area of the base circle and the area of a side.

The area of a circle is π R^2 while the area of the side surface is π * R * S, where S is the side of the cone.

The volume of a cone = 1/3 Pi * h * R^2

Coordinate Geometry

In a Cartesian coordinate system each point is specified by the distance from the perpendicular lines that are denoted as the X- axis and the Y-axis.

Linear Function

The simplest function Y = X is represented by a straight line that intersects the origin (the point of intercept between the X-axis and the Y-axis) and bisects the straight angle between the X-axis and Y-axis.

To plot a function on the coordinate system, assign any value to X and calculate the corresponding value for Y. For example, for the function Y =X, if X = 0 then Y =0. If X = 4 then Y = 4.

Two points are enough to draw a graph for a linear function that is a straight line on the coordinate system.

For the function Y = -X, the graph will have a mirror orientation. if X = 0 then Y = 0. If X =3 then Y = -3

Note that for any linear function Y = aX + b where a and b are constants and are represented by real numbers, changing 'a' to a negative number will change the graph orientation.
